The EU will oblige to repair used equipment, and not throw it away: the requirement may be extended to Ukrainians

The European Commission adopted a recommendation (further it must be approved by the European Parliament) to oblige manufacturers of equipment to repair it even after the warranty period has expired. Repair equipment, provided that its replacement will not cost less than repair. Such a proposal should reduce the amount of waste.

This is discussed on the EC website. If the European Parliament supports the proposal, it may later be extended to Ukraine within the framework of the European association. In the European Union, such a rule is called the “right to repair”.

Yes, the law ensures that consumers always have someone to turn to when they decide to repair their products, and encourages manufacturers to develop more sustainable business models. There will be an obligation for manufacturers to inform consumers about goods that they are obliged to repair on their own.

A European quality standard for repair services will be developed to help consumers identify high quality repairers. This “easy repair” standard will be open to all repairers in the EU who wish to meet minimum quality standards, for example depending on the duration or availability of products.

The European Commission’s proposal, dubbed “Right to Repair”, must be agreed upon by the European Parliament and Member States before it becomes law.

It is part of the European Commission’s broader goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. This can only happen with more responsible consumption, according to the European Commission.

As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS wrote earlier, Vladimir Zelensky signed the law on national minorities (community) of Ukraine. The adoption of this document was among the main requirements for Ukraine to obtain the status of a candidate for accession to the European Union.
