Different figures on business credit: according to the CGIA, although in 2021 the main Italian credit institutions recorded important profits, from November 2020 bank loans to businesses have returned to decline. Between November 2020 and August 2021 (latest updated figure) it fell by 22 billion, bringing the total stock of loans to 732.2 billion. The ABI replies: Gianfranco Torriero, Deputy Director General reports “that the most recent official data released by the Bank of Italy indicate that loans to businesses grew in August 2021 by 1.2 percent compared to the same month in 2020”. Cgia rejoinder: “we point out that the ABI refers to a rate of change (+ 1.2%) which, in reality, is calculated on the average of the changes in the last 12 months, as indicated by the Bank of Italy”. Finally, according to the Confidi Fedart of Cna, Confartigianato and Casartigiani “the total trend of credit to businesses finally returns to grow from 2020 to the first half of 2021 (+ 38.1 billion euros) after almost a decade of contraction”.
