A Russian oligarch’s ship for UAH 1 billion was arrested in Ukraine: what is known

In Ukraine, the ship of the Russian oligarch Alexander Verkhovsky was arrested. The cost of the fish trawler “Sokolovskaya Bay” is estimated at almost UAH 1 billion.

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). Before the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the ship was being completed at a plant in Nikolaev. Now the ship has been transferred to the control of ARMA.

“In order to circumvent the sanctions, the beneficial owner of the vessel registered it with one of the controlled companies in the Primorsky Territory of Russia. However, the SBU officers exposed the agreement and blocked the Russian trawler,” the report says.

Alexander Verkhovsky is a Far Eastern Russian oligarch who is called the “master of the Kuriles”. He is the owner of the Gidrostroy holding, which operates in a number of industries – from fisheries to construction.

Verkhovsky’s enterprises provide significant revenues to the state budget of the Russian Federation for the conduct of the war. Verkhovsky also has close ties to the Kremlin.

“The Russian businessman’s fishing business allows him to regularly transfer billions of dollars to the Russian budget. The arrested trawler is an integral part of the oligarch’s merchant fleet,” the SBU said.

As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS reported, art objects were confiscated in Germany earlier from the yacht of Russian businessman Farkhad Akhmedov, who has close ties to the Kremlin. The total value of the property is several million euros.
