The increase in electricity tariffs may be postponed for a month: people’s deputy named a new price per kilowatt

The June increase in electricity tariffs for Ukrainians may be postponed for another month. However, the growth of payments is inevitable. The new tariff, most likely, will be the same – at the level of UAH 2.8 per 1 kWh, regardless of consumption.

This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Housing and Communal Services, People’s Deputy Oleg Seminsky (“Servant of the People”). So far, Ukrainians pay for electricity at a differentiated tariff: UAH 1.44/kWh for consumption up to 250 kWh per month and UAH 1.68 for higher consumption.

“It is assumed that the tariff will be set the only one – 2.8 UAH per kW for all consumers. However, my feeling is that the tariff increase will be delayed by another monthWhich suggests that the government is being put with understanding and is trying to ensure the smoothest possible transition to new conditions for using the service,” the deputy said.

He stressed that the issue of increasing tariffs for electricity is very sensitive for society. However, in Ukraine there is an urgent need to carry out costly repairs to the power system, which has suffered from Russian attacks. And now the tariff does not even cover the cost of electricity production.

“As an expert in the energy sector, I have to say: an increase in electricity tariffs is absolutely inevitable and a necessary step to save the energy system of our country, to survive the next winter, to survive the war. It must be understood that the cost of the tariff for household consumers (if it is increased) will be only a third of its cost,” the people’s deputy emphasized.

Seminsky also noted that subsidies will remain after the tariff increase. Moreover, due to the increase in utility costs, the number of subsidies may even increase. Therefore, the poorest Ukrainians will by no means have to pay more for a communal apartment.

As GLOBAL HAPPENINGS reported, Ukrainians were also prepared to increase water tariffs. New prices are also proposed to be introduced from June 1.
