A food crisis is brewing in the USA: what products may not be enough

Inflation in the United States has hit a record high since 1990. Now a food crisis is even brewing in the country, and there are holidays ahead, which can only aggravate the situation.

According to American publications, this situation was formed against the background of increased demand, and during October consumer prices jumped by 6.2% compared to the same period last year.

According to ABCNews, this rise in prices is due to the recovery in consumer demand for goods and services to mitigate the pandemic.

At the same time, The Wall Street Journal writes that supply problems have begun in the United States, which may negatively affect one of the most important holidays for Americans – Thanksgiving Day, which is celebrated on November 25.

Before such holidays, the volume of products in warehouses is increased, but this time the situation is different.

• stocks of food and consumer goods in stores 4-11% lower than usual pre-holiday level in the United States;
• turkey stocks make up only 60% of the average level for this timealthough this is the main symbol of Thanksgiving, and last year, stocks were a third more.

It is reported by the analytical company IRI. According to analysts’ calculations, a buyer who has compiled a list of 20 products will not be able to find at least two on the shelves.

For example, American stores lack:

• cranberry sauce
• sweet potatoes;
• frozen pumpkin pies;
• ready-made turkey filling;
• aluminum foil for baking.

And even earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that American producers may have a shortage of wine and champagne.

The factories in the USA are short of packaging for bottles, and the demand for wine bottles themselves increased by 172%.

According to the newspaper, this happened as a result of disruptions in logistics, namely, problems in deliveries from India and China.

Experts also warn that Americans will face high rental and gas prices for the holidays.
