The German supermarket chain Lidl is going to enter the Ukrainian market, but will the European company manage to maintain European quality and low prices? Moreover, there is already an ATB company in Ukraine, which offers cheap products to Ukrainian families.

Product quality

Representatives of the company have repeatedly stated that the European retail chain has high quality standards, as well as requirements for manufacturers.

“We take a very responsible attitude to the quality of our products and their composition, therefore our own brands are time-tested products and manufactured goods that we offer throughout the Lidl network. independent laboratories, we also conduct an audit of the manufacturer “, – Dana Hasana, head of the corporate communications department, said in an interview with the online magazine KLIK.

According to her, the company pays special attention to control over the freshness of vegetables and fruits. They are delivered to supermarkets every day from local suppliers. But, they have to grow them to all Lidl standards.

The Germans require some certificates that not all companies have. For example, Global GAP A. To get it, you need to grow vegetables, fruits and berries, poultry or livestock without the use of chemicals, and the products must be ecological.

Lidl also monitors the hygiene of the workers in these enterprises. Indeed, on the surface of the fruit there should be no dangerous infections, for example, E. coli. To do this, farmers must use fertilizers and water for cultivation of a certain quality. And for workers, companies should have a sanitary facility installed in the field so they can wash and dry their hands before starting work.

“There are many examples where a product made in one of the local markets also enters our international range and thus enters new export markets. Yes, we set high quality requirements and require internationally recognized certificates from our suppliers. Implementation of new standards and certification, of course, will take some time, but everyone will benefit from it, “ – Dana Hasana stated earlier.

Prices in Lidl

Lidl’s marketing strategy is based on the fact that supermarkets offer customers fresh and quality products at attractive prices. The company also offers discounts to customers.

Lidl has lower prices because the company

  • buys in bulk, therefore, has discounts from suppliers;
  • sells goods of its own production, which are cheaper;
  • saves on the number of sellers in the hall;
  • saves on equipment (goods are just in boxes on the shelves).

The company mainly sells verified products of its own brands or suppliers. But, due to the transportation of goods between countries, not all products will be able to maintain attractive prices.

“These will be certain products or product groups that will be of interest to customers. But other chains are also working on this. Local merchants can look forward to some additional supply channels from companies that have found an opportunity to save and reduce the cost of goods.” – said the head of the Latvian Association of Traders Henrik Danusevich ..

It is noteworthy that the Ukrainian supermarket chain ATB operates according to a similar model. Accordingly, the companies will compete.

Earlier we reported that American Su-Jeet Lin made her top-7 products from Lidl, which is going to the Ukrainian market and can compete with ATB, and advises everyone to try them.

In addition, while Lidl, which is going to compete with ATB, is only planning to open the first stores in Ukraine, European goods from these supermarkets are already in full swing on the Internet.
