The self-proclaimed President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, threatens to stop the transit of oil and gas from Russia to Europe if Poland completely closes its borders.

The unrecognized president told about this in an interview with the Russian RIA Novosti.

According to Lukashenka, he even agrees to deliberately violate supply contracts.

“When the Poles or someone else will strangle me, am I going to look at some contracts? .. Think about how you will buy energy resources from Russia,” Lukashenka said.

The self-proclaimed president said that the closure of borders with the EU would not be a big tragedy for Belarus, and his interests were aimed at cooperation with Russia and China.

Migration crisis and energy blackmail

The question of closing the borders arose after Lukashenko actually created an artificial migration crisis and thousands of refugees from eastern countries began to storm the EU borders.

Most migrants try to get to the neighboring countries of Belarus, including Poland and Latvia.

Then the European leaders imposed additional sanctions against Belarus, and Lukashenka responded with energy blackmail.

In early November, he announced that he could stop the transit of gas through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline.

“Today” previously wrote whether Ukraine will be able to extend the contract for the transit of Russian gas after 2024, and together with the expert we figured out how high prices for blue fuel could hit Ukrainian food producers.
