Payments: Intrum, 25% of Europeans take out new loans

(ANSA) – MILAN, 04 DEC – A quarter of Europeans are taking out new loans, in addition to the previous ones, and Italians are the ones who, as a percentage, borrow more money than their salary. This is what emerges from a survey conducted by Intrum, a European operator in the field of credit services, for its European Consumer Payment Report 2021. According to the research, it is the so-called ‘Zeta’ generation, made up of those born between 1997 and 2012, to “easily lose control of their debts”, while “saving is still one of the cornerstones of families”. The data collected by Intrum shows that in the last six months 25% of a sample of European citizens have taken out new loans or have used up to the limit allowed by the credit card limit after the pandemic. A figure up from 21% in 2020, while the remaining 75% of respondents did not contract new debt during the pandemic. On the other hand, in the 24 European countries where Intrum operates, the number of new debt collection practices is decreasing. A figure that indicates that most consumers who take out new loans feel able to repay them.

As for Italians, 31% of Italians borrow between 10% and 25% of their salary, compared to a European average of 25%, while 17% borrow between 25% and 50%. % of your monthly salary against 15% of the European average.

Also in Italy, 55% of respondents asked for a loan or increased the limit of their credit card to buy something for their children and 27% did so several times, bringing the total to 82%. According to Intrum, this is also higher than the European average in this case.
