In Ukraine, the price of gas for those who use the services of a supplier of last resort (PON), as of December 3, 2021, amounted to UAH 46.7 per cubic meter.

This was reported by the press service of NJSC Naftogaz.

The activities of the PON are strictly regulated by law, and the price of gas for its consumers is calculated according to the corresponding formula, approved by the government. Therefore, the gas supply company is obliged to supply gas to all its consumers at this price, which can change every day.

Who uses PON services

The services of the supplier of last resort (the function is performed by the NAC) are used by those whose suppliers could not fulfill their obligations. Such customers are automatically given PON for three months, and then they must choose another supplier and conclude a long-term contract with him.

As noted in NJSC “Naftogaz”, PON is a kind of insurance against the sudden loss of the current supplier. PON will maintain an uninterrupted gas supply so that the business can continue to operate smoothly.

Either huge payments for people, or violation of the terms of PON

Naftogaz turned to National Commission on energy and utilities issues with a request to transfer all PON clients to their annual tariff (7.96 UAH per cubic meter), but the commission has not yet made a decision. We are talking about about 500 thousand clients.

On the one hand, if they do not allow Naftogaz, then hundreds of thousands of families will receive huge payments for gas. On the other hand, if all clients are transferred to Naftogaz, this will actually violate competitive conditions.

“PON is a temporary solution for such consumers. They have to choose a new market gas supplier within a few months. We constantly remind you of this and ask you to do this,” Naftogaz reports.
