(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 21 – The lockdown and restrictions due to covid-19 have affected the production of urban waste. In 2020, 28.9 million tons were produced nationally, 1.1 million tons less than in 2019 (-3.6%). The most significant decrease in the Center (-5.4%), but the decline was also in the North (-3.4%) and in the South (-2.6%). This is what emerges from the Ispra 2021 Urban Waste Report. In the 15 large cities with more than 200 thousand inhabitants, the pandemic caused the production of municipal waste to drop by 8.8% between 2019 and 2020.
A decrease due to the absence of commuting and tourist flows. In Venice and Milan the drop was 15.7% and 14% respectively, followed by Florence and Palermo with reductions of 12.3% and 10.8%.
Catania and Rome close to -10%. (HANDLE).
