(ANSA) – TRENTO, 22 DEC – “We have asked for an acceleration on the guidelines that Minister Cingolani has proposed for Trentino in order to then be able to act independently with respect to the various problems that exist”. Thus the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Maurizio Fugatti, on the sidelines of the meeting with the mayors and the government commissioner in which the topic of wolves was dealt with. “We raised the issue of public safety and the risk that there is due to the presence of wolves near inhabited centers and this has happened in the last few months in numerous municipalities in Trentino. There is not only the problem of risk for the agricultural economy and in the mountains but also that of people’s safety because the proximity to the homes of wolf specimens is increasingly frequent “, comments Fugatti.

There are currently about a hundred wolves in Trentino and they have appeared spontaneously. In 2019 there were 13 herds. In 2020 the herds have become 17, consisting of a minimum of 3 to a maximum of 10 specimens. There are in fact three possible new couples in the Campo Carlo Magno area, in Val Campelle and in the Bedollo area. Other single specimens have been sighted in Paganella and Bondone. In the season that has just ended, the Provincial Wildlife Service recorded over 400 reports of possible damage from bears and wolves throughout the territory, 250 of which refer to the livestock sector. In 2020 7 wolves (4 males and 3 females) were hit on the roads and, in one case, by a train.

Already in 2017, with the previous provincial council, a request was sent to the ministry by the then councilor for the environment Michele Dallapiccola, who had asked for authorization to use rubber bullets to ward off some wolves that had approached the homes in Canazei. (HANDLE).
