Confcommercio: 25/30% New Year cancellations for restaurants

(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 29 – The Omicron variant and the surge in infections will weigh on the New Year celebrations especially as regards catering with more than one canceled booking every four. The Fipe-Confcommercio makes it known, explaining that the cancellations of dinners are already 25/30% in the face of reservations that are still lower than in the pre-pandemic period.

“Before Christmas – we read – the data collected by the Fipe-Confcommercio Research Department estimated 4 million Italians ready to celebrate New Year’s Eve in open restaurants.

To encourage this recovery, restaurateurs had foreseen a reduction in prices compared to two years ago: 78 euros on average for the dinner compared to 80 in 2019, while for dinner and midnight toast with background music the drop was more evident, 90 euros against 105. By virtue of these numbers, the total expected expenditure would have stood at around 325 million euros, compared to 445 million spent two years ago. With the spread of the new Omicron variant, today a further tare between 25 and 30% should be made to these numbers “. (ANSA).
