(ANSA) – ROME, JANUARY 10 – Eni has been awarded five new exploration licenses by the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, four of which as Operator, in the Egyptian offshore and onshore, after the positive participation in the “Egypt International Bid Round for Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation “2021 previously announced by the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company through the Egypt Exploration and Production Gateway.

In making it known with a press release, the Italian energy group explains that the licenses are located in the Eastern Mediterranean (Block “EGY-MED-E5” in partnership with BP 50% -50% and Block “EGY-MED-E6” IEOC 100% ), in the Gulf of Suez (Block “EGY-GOS-13” IEOC 100%) and in the Western Desert (Blocks “Egy-WD-7” in partnership with APEX 50% -50% and “EGY-WD-9” IEOC 100%) with a total area of approximately 8,410 square kilometers. The licenses, Eni continues, “are located within prolific basins with a proven oil geological context capable of generating liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons, and can also count on nearby production and processing plants, as well as a demanding market that will allow a rapid exploitation of potential exploratory discoveries “.

These results, it is noted in the note, “are in line with Eni’s strategy of continuing to explore and produce gas to support the Egyptian domestic market and contribute to the export of LNG, thanks to the recent restart of the Damietta LNG plant” .

Eni has been present in Egypt since 1954 where it is currently the country’s leading producer of hydrocarbons equal to approximately 350,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. (HANDLE).
