More resignations from work in Umbria than in the rest of Italy

(ANSA) – PERUGIA, 13 JAN – During the period of Covid in Umbria, voluntary resignations from work, especially in 2021, grew with more evident numbers than in the rest of Italy. It emerges from the new year-end economic and social report of the Umbria Ricerche Agency.

The study was presented in a press videoconference by the President of the Region, Donatella Tesei, by the extraordinary commissioner of Aur, Alessandro Campi, and by researchers Mauro Casavecchia and Elisabetta Tondini.

“Almost 6 thousand people are affected, 77% of the total terminations” explained the researchers. “What lies behind all this, a phenomenon clearly not only Umbrian, is too early to say – they added – but the period of Covid has matured important psychological attitudes.

Income support tools will certainly have done their part, or the resignations caused by abandonments that are strictly not voluntary, but the result of planned and accelerated decisions during the pandemic “.

For the researchers of the Aur this can also be a “positive” phenomenon, if we consider the transactions from one job to another, “but only in the event of an improvement”. “One thing is clear, however – they specified – we will not have an immobile and stable labor market in the future, but a more fluid and mobile one”.

With regard to the effects of the pandemic linked to “collective psychology”, “encouraging signs” also emerge from the Aur report, as emphasized by the special commissioner Campi. “The level of well-being and the rate of confidence in an uncertain future is sufficiently high – he said – and this is explained by the social structure of the region, where friends, family and social relations represent a sort of protective barrier, which leaves hope for the future. A peculiarity of Umbria which must be safeguarded and which can also support the virtuous development of the economic dimension “. (HANDLE).
