Bills: Cgia, government aid cover only 6% increases

(ANSA) – VENICE, 22 JAN – Although the Government for this first quarter has disbursed 5.5 billion euros in aid to families and businesses against high bills, the amount remains, unfortunately, completely insufficient to mitigate the additional costs for home and non-home users. The CGIA points out that much more needs to be done: in the face of an increase in the cost of electricity and gas which for 2022 amounts to a total of 89.7 billion, the coverage rate is just over 6%. For the CGIA in 2022, the energy price increase will be 89.7 billion: 30.8 for households and 58.9 for businesses. So far, the Draghi Government has approved a series of measures to mitigate the increases in energy tariffs which amount to a total of 10.2 billion: 4.7 disbursed for the second part of 2021, another 3.8 have been introduced with the 2022 Budget law to which 1.7 billion allocated yesterday by decree must be added. The percentage reduction of additional costs for households and businesses expected in 2022 is contained at 6%. If new resources are not found that can calm energy bills, many businesses will not withstand these cost increases and the public money saved will have to be spent to pay the CIG or unemployment benefits to workers who will lose their jobs. According to the CGIA in recent weeks, almost 1.8 million employees work in the so-called energy-intensive sectors. If these increases persist for a good part of 2022, it cannot be excluded that 500,000 risk, even temporarily, staying at home. Between May and December 2021 the energy increases were + 302% and + 346% for gas.

(before the summer the price was around 70 euros per megawatt hour, at the end of the year at 281.2 euros). The cost of gas in May was 25.4 euros per megawatt hour, 7 months later it rose to 113.3 euros. (HANDLE).
