(ANSA) – MILAN, JANUARY 26 – Employment is growing in Lombardy which is still affected by the good economic results of 2021, but the very strong increases in energy costs, difficulties in supply chains and the increase in infections from Covid-19. These are the main evidences that emerge from the data in the Economics Booklet edited by the Study Center of Assolombarda and published in Genio & Impresa (genioeimpresa.it), the Association’s web magazine.

The economic recovery in Lombardy during 2021 is reflected in the employment data which, according to the provisional estimates of Istat, grows between July and September by + 88 thousand units on an annual basis, but compared to 2019 there are still 63 thousand fewer employees . The positive increase in employment is associated with both a decrease in the inactive (-93 thousand) and, in contrast to the previous quarter, in the unemployed (-25 thousand).

Companies are experiencing less momentum due to the very high energy costs (65% of the total annual electricity consumption in Lombardy derives from innovative industry and service companies), the increase in infections and the criticalities in the supply chains.

“After a strong rebound in 2021 at the beginning of the year, the recovery continues, but at a slower pace and new uncertainties emerge in the future. The shock of the cost of energy weighs on companies, also because it adds to the persistence of supply difficulties. of global chains, the increase in the prices of many raw materials and the shortage of some components “, says Valeria Negri, Director of the Assolombarda Study Center.
