The Ukrainian poet, writer and leader of the Zhadan and Dogs group, after being nominated for the Nobel Prize, became the winner of another prestigious award.

For the first time in history, a Ukrainian received the German Freedom Prize from the Frank Schirrmacher Foundation, the legendary journalist and publisher of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Zhadan was noted “for literary, poetic and essayistic creativity and courageous devotion in difficult times.”

The writer spoke about the award received on her Facebook page and promised to give all the money to help Ukrainian volunteers.

Thanks to the organizers for this gesture of support for Ukraine – for us today, the attention and support of the world is really very important. I will gladly donate the monetary component of the award – 10,000 Swiss francs – to volunteer needs: I will buy a couple of beads for good people, – shared Zhadan.

It should be noted that this year the Freedom Award was presented for the first time together with the traditional fund award.

Earlier, Ukrainian singer Jamala sang at the Polish Wiktory ceremony, where a special award was presented to Volodymyr Zelensky.
