Lancaster had multiple sclerosis. The musician died at his home in Sydney, according to the group’s website.

I am heartbroken to announce the passing of Alan Lancaster, Britain’s king of music, god of the guitar and founding member of the cult band Status Quo.

Status Quo is a British rock band founded in 1962 by Alan Lancaster and Francis Rossi. The band played in the style of rock and roll with elements of rhythm and blues and boogie-woogie.
