How to choose an educational institution?

A list of German universities can be found at portal Hochschulkompass. Then open the website of the desired university to find out the dates of the admission campaign. It usually lasts from April 1st to July 15th and from October 1st to December 15th.

How are colleges different from universities in Germany?

Colleges in Germany (Berufsakademien, Berufschulen and Fachschulen) offer exclusively vocational education. Universities include classical universities and specialized institutions:

  • Universities of Applied Sciences.
  • Technical universities.
  • School of arts and music.
  • medical universities.
  • Theological universities.
  • Pedagogical Universities.

What colleges exist?

In colleges of types Berufsakademien, Berufsschulen and Hochschulen dual training lasts 3 years.

Training consists of theoretical classes (3 months) and internships in German companies. The college coordinates the practical training plan with the employer.

Students study at Fachschulen and Fachakademien colleges from 1 to 2 years. Training is full-time and part-time. These are specialized educational institutions for continuing professional education. The college degrees issued are equivalent to master’s and bachelor’s degrees.

To enter Fachschulen or Fachakademienmust be trained at the Studienkolleg.

What documents are needed?

Required documents for admission to the bachelor’s program:

  • Passport.
  • Certificate (11 classes) and supplement with grades.
  • Biography.
  • Motivation letter.
  • Language certificate.

The master’s program requires recommendations from teachers or employers, and also bachelor’s degree and supplement with grades.

It is recommended to check the requirements before admission on the website of each university. Documents in Ukrainian should be translated in sworn translators or notarize.

How to get a scholarship?

Look for scholarship opportunities on DAAD, Stiftungssuche, Stipendienlotse and myStipendium platforms. Do not forget that in order to receive a scholarship, Documents to be submitted: biography, motivation letter, documents on the status of a student in Germany, report card, diplomas and certificates (if any).
