An assistant professor at the Chun-Chu Chen School of Hospitality at the University of Washington conducted a study to find out how tourism affects people and why some travel more often than others. The magazine Tourism Analysis published the results of a survey, one of which argues the importance of tourism in people’s lives.

500 respondents took part. Study participants who were more likely to travel at least 75 miles from home felt 7% happier than those who rarely or did not travel at all.

The US Travel Association conducted research between couples in love to see if shared trips had a positive effect on their relationship. The results were published in an online journal. The study found that couples who travel together have happier relationships compared to respondents who did not travel.

  • 86% of respondents traveling together believe there is romance in their relationship. Lovers who don’t travel together have a lower rate of romance in relationships – only 73%.
  • 94% of respondents traveling together reported that they consider their partner to be a close person. Couples who do not travel together have a lower rate of 86%.

The US Travel Association also published a study in an online magazine that hints that travel is the best psychologist for lovers. After all, couples who traveled separately were more likely to get divorced than those who traveled together.

  • 21% of respondents who do not travel together believe that their relationship problems will never be resolved. People traveling together have a lower rate – only 13%.
  • 30% of respondents who do not travel together said they would like their partner to have more time and energy for their leisure time, compared to 23% of respondents traveling together.

Senior Lecturer in Tourism at Brad University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, Jeron Naveen wanted to investigate if a person feels happier on vacation and during planning. The results of the study were published on the Springer Link website.

After interviewing 1,530 Dutch people, among whom 974 were vacationing, it was surveyed, that before planning a vacation, people feel happier compared to those who do not plan a vacation or get distracted from their routine.
