Andy Warhol’s 1964 painting Shot Sage Blue Marilyn fetched a record $195 million. Portrait of Marilyn Monroe called the most expensive work of art of the twentieth century and the most expensive in history American art in general.

Auction house Christie’s told the audience ahead of the auction that the Shot Sage Blue Marilyn portrait is one of the rarest and most outstanding works of art that exists today. Also voiced estimated cost is $200 million.

The painting was sold for $170 million but the final price was $195 million including taxes and fees. According to Bloomberg, the masterpiece was bought by American art-lover Larry Gagosianwhich owns a network of art galleries around the world.
