In the “Wound with Ukraine” program of the “Ukraine” channel, psychologist Elena Adamova explained, how to find the right words to talk to people who have lost loved ones during the war. She noted that this is a huge grief and tragedy, to which everyone reacts in their own way. There is no unequivocal advice on how to help, but it is better if a person communicates with a psychologist.

It would not be bad if a person who has lost someone would consult a psychologist. Experts immediately read the psychological state and can tell how much a person has a damaged psyche and whether he is able to cope with the loss on his own. Someone needs time and people nearby, and someone needs urgent help, because, being in a strong state of shock, he can harm himself, Adamova explained.

The psychologist also noted that we should pay attention to the behavior of a person and his condition. If he demonstrates suicidal tendencies – you need to contact professional psychologists as soon as possible. If a person makes contact and tries to cope with pain, help yourself.

In no case should a person be left alone with his grief. They will decide whether to talk to you or not, but we must be there and support: cook food, take you for walks, make phone calls and even be silent together. In such a situation, it is important that the person does not feel alone. Don’t use others as an example and don’t say “I’d be in your place”. It is important to relate to the loss of this particular person, because for everyone this pain is special. And do not succumb to aggression – just listen and be ready to help, the psychologist advises.
