Artist Olesya Trofimenko used traditional Ukrainian ornaments to create canvases that were hung in the hall where the fashion show of Maria Grazia Chiuri took place.

In the teaser for the Dior couture show, the atelier’s employees told what, in their opinion, folklore is. Masters called handwork, embroidery, traditions and connection with their roots and ancestors. In the new fall 2022 collection, the creative director of the brand, Maria Grazia Chiuri, turned to traditions and everything connected with them.
Maria invited the Ukrainian artist Olesya Trofimenko to work on the haute couture collection. Against the backdrop of her work with traditional ornaments, models walked along the catwalk in front of star guests. Olesya’s canvases were hand-embroidered by the masters of Chanakaya School of Craft in Mumbai.
We discussed the idea that it should be something optimistic. I made sketches based on traditional Ukrainian ornaments,” Olesya said in a promotional video for the Dior show.
Dior’s couture collection includes embroidered dresses, white lace shirt dresses, pleated skirts, fringed cropped jackets, loose-sleeved blouses, plaid sundresses and high collars. All things somewhat resembled peasant clothes, and they were made in shades of gray, beige, red and burgundy, as well as black and white.
