Canada is one of the countries that has become a new home for temporarily resettled Ukrainians. Newcomers should be familiar with Canadian business communication in order to resolve urgent issues after moving. Immigration expert Tatyana Karbovanets on Instagram spoke about 7 taboos during business communication. Every Ukrainian in Canada should know them!

After living in Canada for 6 years, I began to look at many things differently. Of course, living in another country, you gradually begin to adopt the local culture of communication , you get used to the lifestyle, customs, unwritten rules of behavior. It so happened that since the beginning of the war, for obvious reasons, there were much more Ukrainians among my clients. And although I am happy to help them with immigration issues, more and more often I encounter some misunderstandings in the system of our values, and especially differences in expectations regarding communication, – said Tatyana Karbovets.

7 business communication taboos in Canada

  1. Call an expert during non-working hours and days.
  2. Resolve issues through messengers Viber, WhatsApp, as well as the social network Instagram. It is customary to correspond by e-mail Gmail.
  3. “Throw” the expert with similar questions in instant messengers and social networks, if you do not receive an instant response to the mail.
  4. Devalue the work of an expert. The time spent by a professional in any field should be paid, so the phrase at the end of the consultation “I am ready to thank you” is inappropriate. Better ask – “How much do your services cost?”.
  5. Send a “?” or the word “Hello?”, if you don’t get a reply within 5 minutes. This is rude and disrespectful.
  6. Not showing up on time for scheduled video calls or join with car, public transport, beach area or shower.
  7. Forget about the local time difference. Relevant for people in contact with Canadian experts while in Ukraine. Nobody will answer your calls at night.
