The then chief spokesman for the “Tagesschau” stood next to Dagmar Berghoff when the “Tagesschau” went live on June 16, 1976 at 8 p.m. The chief spokesman considered women to be emotionally unstable – typical for men at the time – and believed that they would burst into tears when they heard terrible news. But Dagmar Berghoff presented the news impeccably. She came, read and conquered until, on December 31, 1999, she greeted the viewers of the most watched news program on German television for the last time. Berghoff had determined her final day after 23 years.
