With “Elbphilharmonie Visions”, a new festival for contemporary music will start on February 2nd in Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie.
The Elbphilharmonie announced that some of the most exciting orchestral works of recent years can be heard until February 12, including those by Kaija Saariaho, John Adams, Anna Thorvaldsdottir, Thomas Larcher, Isabel Mundry and James Dillon.
The new festival will open with the world premiere of “Flugel” by the young Swedish composer Lisa Streich and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra conducted by Alan Gilbert. All concerts are accompanied by discussion formats.
“The Great Hall is like no other suitable for exploring new musical worlds. This is due to the clear and spatial acoustics and the atmosphere of the room,” said Artistic Director Christoph Lieben-Seutter.
Principal Conductor Alan Gilbert emphasizes that “we should not only appreciate the works of the old masters, but also what our contemporaries are creating. It can be exciting to discover something completely new for yourself, things that go beyond your musical imagination. For this we have made a selection of compositions that have premiered all over the world and that we consider relevant.” (dpa)
