My mother and I are very close. She was a single parent, single mother, like Joyce was. It also meant as Kristine Sutherland [ndlr, l’interprète de Joyce] left the series which was hard for me. But the hardest thing about it all is that the scene was shot on Steadicam-oner like a stage play.
We rehearsed several times with the camera, the pole, you know, because you have to walk through the sets. This is a take of approx. 4 and a half minutes and she had this performance all the way, we all had to pull it off.
So even if I thought my performance was great but the pole was in the field or the camera was in the way, everything had to be redone.
We could only do it a few times so we rehearsed like a play and we went dark. I really give credit to the whole team because it was a team effort.
