The “Reschke Fernsehen” format was clearly conceived as a product that ARD competed with Jan Böhmermann’s “ZDF Magazin Royale”. The focus is on the younger target group, who otherwise tend not to watch the first. This Thursday, moderator Anja Reschke mixed irony and investigation, supplemented by an entertaining history lesson. On top of that, there was a scoop: the publication of the “Kujau-Kladden”, better known as the Hitler diaries forged by Konrad Kujau. In 1983 the “Stern” believed that the “biography of the dictator and the history of the Third Reich had to be largely rewritten”.
As is well known, the publication became the biggest media scandal in the old Federal Republic. In terms of scandals, the ARD has not remained idle since then. But that’s certainly not the reason why NDR is now publishing the diaries on the Internet after “Stern” failed to do so for 40 years due to alleged concerns about the potential for abuse. Incidentally, the März Verlag publishes the annotated diary falsifications in book form.
NDR: The history of the diaries must be rewritten
According to the NDR, the history of the diary scandal must now be rewritten. Sure: You can accuse the then “Stern” bosses of many things: sensationalism, greed for profit, unprofessionalism. Why else were elementary authenticity checks omitted? “Reschke Fernsehen” recognizes an even worse intention.
Derived from the fact that in Kujau’s Führer-Diary there are 77 passages on stomach disorders and 58 on sleep disorders, but the terms concentration camp or Auschwitz never appear once, another accusation is made: the magazine was fully aware of wanting to help Hitler and the Nazi -to wash Germany clean. However, to accuse the “Stern” of active support in Holocaust denial goes too far. After all: Bertelsmann is now having the scandal scientifically processed.
