A clear message to Russia’s president: Berlinale jury member Radu Jude abuses Putin in a guest book entry

The Berlinale competition jury signed the Berlin guest book on the anniversary of the start of the Russian attack on all of Ukraine. In the presence of the Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey, jury member Radu Jude wrote “Fuck Putin 4ever” in capital letters on the left side.

The media first reported that the entry came from jury president Kristen Stewart. The Tagesspiegel also reported this after the press office of the Senate Chancellery had confirmed it.

But Stewart only left an autograph on the right side, along with a friendly “With true love”, which is probably intended for the city of Berlin. In addition to the Hollywood star, the jury members Golshifteh Farahani, Valeska Grisebach, Francine Maisler, Johnny To and Carla Simón also signed. Radu Jude made the entry against Putin without signing it.

The jury of the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival has seen 19 films in the competition, including five German entries, over the past ten days and will announce on Saturday evening who will receive the Golden and Silver Bears. At 32, Hollywood star Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”) was the youngest ever jury president. (tsp)
