Abba, new album between vintage and sprinkled with modernity

It took 40 years to get them back. A “pause” that began in 1982 and is now about to end with the release of a new album of unreleased tracks. The legendary Swedish band Abba, with 400 million records sold worldwide and timeless hits like Mamma Mia and their debut single Waterloo, just to name a few, releases Voyage tomorrow.
A real journey through their history, with a vintage seventies atmosphere and a sprinkling of modernity. With the indelible and unmistakable brand of Abba.
Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid pick up where they left off: the album returns the Abba that they once were and that fans probably expect (at the announcement of the new album, with 80,000 pre-orders in Great Britain in three days The record for a Universal record was broken). In the 10 tracks echoes of songs like Dancing Queen and SOS, as if time had stopped, between more intimate ballads (like I can be that woman) and more energetic and danceable pieces (like Don’t shut me down, already out along with I Still Have Faith in You – they are also the first two songs recorded during these new recording sessions started in 2018 -, and Keep an eye on Dan). There is also a piece with a Christmas atmosphere like Little Things, which promises to compete with the December classics.
Voyage is Abba’s first studio album since The Visitors, released on November 30, 1981 (and also comes about 50 years after the band’s debut album, Ring Ring, 1973). Like all previous records, Voyage was also written and produced by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, with the timeless voices of Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. “It’s been a while since we made music together. We took a hiatus from the spring of 1982 and now we have decided to end it – says the band -. They say it’s reckless to wait more than 40 years between an album and the other then we recorded a sequel to The Visitors. We called it Voyage because it was a journey into uncharted territories “. And then he adds: “Actually, the main inspiration for returning to the recording studio again comes from our involvement in creating the strangest and most spectacular concert that has ever been possible to imagine.” On May 27, in fact, Abba Voyage kicks off, the technological concert that will see the digital versions of the artists sing their hits with a real 10-piece band in a purpose-built arena, the ABBA Arena, at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London (over 250,000 tickets were sold in the first three days). “We will be able to sit in the audience and watch our digital counterparts perform our songs. Weird and wonderful at the same time!”.
Love for the Abba has never been undermined, despite their long absence from the scene and their separation. Abba Gold, released in 1992, recently passed one thousandth week on the UK Album Chart, becoming the first album in history to reach this milestone. On TikTok, content with the hashtag #ABBA has recently reached a billion views, without the catalog being officially accessible on the platform. In 2010 Abba were inducted into the Rock N’Roll Hall of Fame and in 2015 “Dancing Queen”, one of their most beloved songs, was added to the Grammy Hall of Fame. Over the years there have been many initiatives that have honored them. The last one yesterday, in their Sweden, in Uppsala, but marred by the death of two people, when a man fell from the seventh floor onto an open space of a concert hall where the concert was scheduled.
