Riccardo Chailly at the Malatesta Festival in Rimini

(ANSA) – RIMINI, 06 NOV – The 72nd Malatesta Music Festival in Rimini continues on 8 November at 9 pm with the Filarmonica della Scala conducted by Riccardo Chailly. For the first time in Rimini as musical director of the prestigious formation, the Milanese maestro proposes at the Galli Theater a program that combines the Symphony No. 3 in A minor “Scottish” composed by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy with the famous “Pastorale” Symphony, Beethoven’s sixth. Both pages capture the reflection of nature: if Mendelssohn’s symphony was born on the wave of travel memories and musical notes taken in Wales and Scotland during 1829, the Beethovenian masterpiece of nature captures above all the expression, as he wrote. ‘author who presented his work for the first time in Vienna in 1808, during a concert where the public also listened to the Fifth Symphony for the first time. Musical Director of the Teatro alla Scala, Riccardo Chailly since 2016 has succeeded Claudio Abbado as conductor of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. At the turn of the 80s and 90s he was also head of the symphonic ensembles of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna and then of the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, which he led for sixteen years.

Founded by Claudio Abbado and the Scala musicians in 1982, the Filarmonica della Scala is one of the most prestigious orchestras on the international music scene. He saw Carlo Maria Giulini lead the first tours and Riccardo Muti as principal conductor from 1987 to 2005, promoting his artistic growth and constant presence in the most prestigious concert halls in the world. Since then the orchestra has established collaborative relationships with the major conductors: from Leonard Bernstein to Giuseppe Sinopoli, from Seiji Ozawa to Zubin Mehta, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Yuri Temirkanov, Daniele Gatti, Fabio Luisi up to Daniel Harding, Daniel Barenboim, Valery Gergiev, Georges Prêtre, Lorin Maazel.
