New itineraries for visits at the Certosa di Firenze

(ANSA) – FLORENCE, 09 NOV – Four different itineraries to discover the Certosa di Firenze, an exceptional historical testimony of community life at the gates of the city, on the Roman road. Until 27 November it is possible to learn about the history and activities of the architectural complex through four interactive experiential visits curated by the Cooperative Opera d’Arte.

The initiative is part of the “Unusual and sustainable Florence” project, created with co-financing from the Municipality of Florence and the Community of San Leolino.

The visits, lasting about an hour, will take place every Wednesday and Saturday morning at 10:30 and 11:30, and will allow you to explore this place full of charm, also visiting areas not usually open to the public. Reservations are recommended. On Wednesday it will be possible to participate in the itineraries ‘Time and times of the Community’ (10:30 am) and ‘L’abitare’ (11.30 am) while on Saturday at ‘The daily life’ (10.30 am) and ‘Work and productions’ (11.30 am) . The monastic complex of the Certosa di Firenze was built by the will of Niccolò Acciaioli, belonging to one of the richest banking families in Florence. Acciaioli began construction in 1342, wanting to equip the city, like the major cities of the time, with a monastery for the monks of the Carthusian order. In 1958 the Cistercian Benedictine monks took over the complex and in 2017 the Archdiocese of Florence entrusted the custody and enhancement to the Community of San Leolino, a community of priests and lay people who promote spiritual and cultural initiatives in the Certosa.
