‘Memoirs of green giants’, a book on ancient trees ER

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 18 NOV – The Verucchio cypress stands out among all, the oldest in Emilia-Romagna, planted according to tradition by St. Francis. These are the centuries-old trees of Emilia-Romagna, real cultural assets of the region, which on the occasion of the Tree Festival become protagonists in the publication ‘Memories of Green Giants’ and in a meeting on the subject. The appointment, scheduled for November 19 at the “Guglielmi” Mediateca in Bologna, at 3.30 pm, will tell the story of the Monumental Trees of Italy in Emilia-Romagna, with forays into poetry and literature dedicated to the green patriarchs, on the occasion of the release of the volume edited by Rosella Ghedini and Carlo Tovoli of the Cultural Heritage Service of the Region (published by Bononia University Press). The volume, 257 pages, is a photographic journey to discover the large trees (103 in Emilia-Romagna recognized as “Monumental of Italy”) but also the regional landscape with its beauties, its rituals, its traditions.

“This beautiful volume – comments the regional councilor for Culture and Landscape, Mauro Felicori – teaches us to evaluate the tree as a monument, as a cultural heritage. A look that should not be overlooked, even if climate change and the consequent ecological transition lead us to look at it above all from a functional point of view. The tree is in fact the bearer of anthropological, cultural and aesthetic values. And of this cultural perspective the monumental tree is undoubtedly the most powerful representation. The Emilia-Romagna Region has been making its part to survey, safeguard and enhance the ‘green giants’ “. (HANDLE).
