The study was published in theInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and involved 8,000 American adults. The aim is to analyze the associations between an individual’s mental health problems and their online sexual behavior. The data was subsequently collected online by Prodege.

Sextech encompasses a wide variety of technologies such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and the shared online environments. However, the most popular are sexting, camming sites, and sexually explicit online games.

A new way to fight anxiety and depression?

Following the study, a large part of the participants in a state of great Depression orincreased anxiety said they used sextech. This mainly concerns men of all sexual orientations and heterosexual women. However, in lesbian and bisexual women, the use of digital sex technologies is more linked to anxiety than to depression.

The advent of la sextech opened the door to a whole new form d’interaction sociale and sexual fulfillment. Consequently, technological advances could participate in the expansion of interventions in the field of Mental Health.

“As the global need for innovative mental health resources and interventions grows, these emerging sexual technologies could provide relief to people with mental health issues. “

No to prejudices about sextech!

The researchers also tried, through this study, to demystify common beliefs. Indeed, the use of sextech is very often associated with the search for a alternative to social engagement. Yet, according to the results, people who experience a high level of loneliness are less likely to resort to sexual experiences online.

Contrary to preconceptions, the results showed that the use of sextech is not linked to feelings of psychological loneliness.

“It is likely that many users of these online sex spaces have adequate social support and social networks, but are turning to online sex technologies for a unique boost in their psychological state of mind. . “
