Elena Ferrante and the “bad language” foreign to truth women

(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 24 – ELENA FERRANTE, THE MARGINS AND THE DETAILS (EDITIONS E / O, PP 154, EURO 15.00). In the four unpublished texts collected in the book ‘The margins and the dictation’, published by Edizioni E / O, Elena Ferrante reflects on her own and others’ “adventure of writing” and calls out against “bad language”, historically extraneous to truths of women.

“The challenge – I thought and I think – is to learn to freely use the cage in which we are closed. It is a painful contradiction: how can we freely use a cage, be it a solid literary genre or consolidated expressive habits or even the language itself, the dialect? ” says the mysterious writer in ‘Stories, I’, one of the three master classes intended for the citizens of Bologna on the occasion of the Umberto Eco Lectures, which started on November 17, 2021, collected in the book in addition to the essay ‘Dante’s rib’, composed for the closing of the conference of the Italianists on the Supreme Poet and other classics.

The mysterious writer proposes a choral fusion of female talents and, again in ‘Stories, I’ gives us words to reflect on in depth on the World Day against violence against women on 25 November.

“Today I think that if the literature written by women wants to be able to have its own writing of truth, it takes the work of each one.

We have to renounce for a long time the distinction between those who make only average books and those who make inevitable verbal universes. Against the bad language that historically does not intend to welcome our truth, we must confuse, merge our talents, not a line is lost in the wind. We can do it “says Ferrante. (ANSA).
