Theater: when eating behavior becomes a disorder

(ANSA) – PALERMO, NOV 26 – Gemma is the name of the show staged on November 29th at 9.15 pm and November 30th at 11.30 am, for the 54th season of the Teatro Libero di Palermo. Directed by Giada Costa, with Maria Chiara Pellitteri and Silvia Trigona.

“Gemma deals with the conflict present in a girl living with an eating disorder. The protagonist appears on the scene split in two, in opposite and dysfunctional behaviors between which she oscillates in the course of her life – says the director -. On the one hand. an anorexic Gem trapped in a vortex of deprivation, on the other a voracious Gem in constant search of something that fills its void. Basically, a single Gem in search of itself, through the suffering of a dysmorphic body “.

Over three million people in Italy, 2.3 million of whom are adolescents, are affected by an eating disorder, with an ever lower age of onset. Nobody chooses to get sick, but everyone can ask for help and ultimately heal, accepting that “pain cannot be measured or eaten” on the contrary it can welcome reuniting with one’s fragile humanity in spite of the deforming mirror that feeds obsession and discomfort the unsustainable, but useless, pursuit of perfection “.
