Europe drives exports of Italian books abroad, + 8% in 2020

(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 26 – The sale of rights to European publishers drives the Italian export of books: in 2020 there were 5,914, up 8% compared to the previous year, the titles sold in Europe, equal to 69% of the world total. It is one of the first data of the focus on internationalization that will take place on 7 December at 11, within the professional program of ‘Più libri più libero’, the Fair of small and medium-sized publishing in Rome scheduled from 4 to 8 December at the Cloud of Eur.

The meeting, ‘Oltre Chiasso. The international dimension of Italian publishing ‘is created in collaboration with the Center for books and reading-Cepell and Aldus up, funded by the European Commission within the framework of Creative Europe.

Speakers will be Angelo Piero Cappello (Cepell), Isabella Del Monte (Bologna Children’s Book Fair), Paola Pecchioli (il Mulino), Giovanni Peresson (Aie Studies Office), moderated by the journalist Paolo Conti.

Among the other meetings of the professional program that look abroad, Monday 6 December at 9.15, in the Auditorium Hall, ‘Aldus Focus on… Italy. The Italian market illustrated to foreign guests’, an event reserved for foreign publishers participating in the Rights Center of Più libri più libero 2021 in collaboration with Ice Agenzia, Bologna Children’s Book Fair, Aldus up with speeches by Piero Attanasio (Aie), Luigi D’Aprea (Ice Agency), Marco Momoli (Bologna Fiere).

Instead, the spotlight is on European standards and their application in Italy for the meeting on Tuesday 7 December at 5 pm, ‘Are you ready for the Accessibility Act? with Cristina Mussinelli (Lia Foundation) and Gregorio Pellegrino (Lia Foundation).

As every year, the Rights Center on the N5 floor of the Cloud will be active, in this edition scheduled for 6 and 7 December, where Italian exhibitors will meet in one-to-one meetings with foreign operators for the exchange of rights. Some of these operators specializing in books for children and young people will also participate in the fellowship program in collaboration with the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. (HANDLE).
