James Gunn (director of Guardians of the Galaxy) ranks his favorite Spider-Man movies

The theatrical release of “Spider-Man No Way Home” is getting closer and since then, Spider-Man has been on everyone’s lips. It must be said that since the super hero burst the screen in 2002, he has become a sure bet in super heroic cinema and Marvel had to integrate him into the MCU!

Before that, Spidey was treated to a trilogy with Tobey Maguire in the title role, then a duology with Andrew Garfield this time around. It was only after the MCU took hold of the character and the dearly beloved Spidey came back in full force by integrating the Avengers as Tom Holland.

Today, with the No Way Home frenzy, some fans got into debating the best Spider-Man movie. Some even started to make tops… And even James Gunn played the game!

James Gunn gives his top 3

It was on Twitter that James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy, shared his ranking of his favorite Spider-Man movies. The idea came to him in response to a post by Matt “Supes” Ramos, a journalist specializing in pop culture. The latter had tweeted his top 9 favorite Spider-Man movies and unsurprisingly, “Spider-Man No Way Home” is number one.

For his part, James Gunn has unveiled his top 3 and here are the Spiderman feature films he really liked: in response to Matt Ramos’ tweet, the director announced that “Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse was his number. 1 of all spider-films. Next is Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man Homecoming, the MCU’s very first spidey movie.

And the least we can say is that James Gunn has taste: all the Spider-Man films each have their qualities, but the animated film is the cream of the crop! Not only for its fascinating history (6 spidey for the price of one!) But also for its magnificent images. A second installment has been announced for 2022 and James Gunn is surely waiting impatiently for it.

News from Gardians of the Galaxy 3

As for Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn can also be proud: the third installment is indeed eagerly awaited, fans are really looking forward to seeing Star Lord and his friends. The theatrical release is slated for 2023 and it’s a truly poignant adventure that awaits viewers if the cast is to be believed. Karen Gillan (Nebula) teased a really moving story: with Pom Klementieff (Mantis), they would have actually cried while reading the script.

We can’t wait to discover it all. Two more long years to wait! Until then, there are plenty of MCU adventures to be found, including Spider-Man No Way Home on December 17th.
