The Gran Teatro Reinach lives again on stage at the Regio di Parma

(ANSA) – PARMA, 30 NOV – The Reinach theater in Parma, inaugurated in 1871, was destroyed in 1944 by an air raid during the Second World War and never rebuilt: that historic hall now lives again in the operetta “Gran Teatro Reinach”, a new commission from the Teatro Regio di Parma in world premiere, staged on 11 December at 8 pm and 12 at 3.30 pm as the opening title of the opera season.

In its nearly seventy years of activity, the Reinach had hosted the most popular operettas of the time, from The Merry Widow to the Land of Bells, from Scugnizza to Farewell Youth! Up to Orpheus in hell: almost 80 years after that tragic spring Saturday that saw him collapse, the music of those famous operettas, rearranged by Alessandro Palumbo and performed by the Rapsody Orchestra directed by Gianluca Martineghi, will recreate the atmosphere and spirit of the destroyed theater.

“Gran Teatro Reinach” was the result of a work that lasted several months, which involved, hand in hand, the entire creative team: “The real challenge – explains director Marco Castagnoli – was finding the right balance between the historical event and the imaginary one and on the stage between the prose parts and the musical dramaturgy, in the context in which the staging and the writing of the show have traveled on the same track since the beginning of the project “.

The show makes use of the dramaturgy and texts of Sergio Basile, with choreography by Luisa Baldinetti. On stage the lightness and vivacity of those melodies, against the backdrop of the tragedies that raged outside the theater walls, are embodied by Alfonso Antoniozzi (The Prompter) at the head of a very numerous cast. In less than a century of life, the Reinach Theater, renamed “Paganini” in 1938, was a point of reference for a huge variety of shows.

“With his death, a wound opens, perhaps never completely healed, in the heart of the city, in the Piazzale della Pace – writes the playwright and librettist Sergio Basile – This dramaturgy wants to give back to the city a piece of its history: a building, a theater where actors, singers, conductors, audience have passed “.
