In Florence a sound work with teenagers voices in lockdown

(ANSA) – FLORENCE, 03 DEC – Digital sounds, songs, phrases, music, ambulances, voices, stories, cries of poignant intensity, full of vitality and hope, coming from the five continents. These are the voices that give life to ‘QuaranTeens’, an artistic intervention on the sound landscape conceived and created by Benedetta Manfriani by Valentina Gensini, which will be inaugurated on Saturday 4 December (5 pm) in the tree-lined area of Piazza del Carmine in Florence.

Played in the title on the provocative combination of two ideally distant terms, quarantine and the world of teenagers, the installation was born from the call launched in February 2021 by Mad Murate Art District, a space managed by Mus.ee and relaunched by various cultural centers of the five continents .

In the call, young people from all over the world were asked to send a message (in any language) to tell about themselves and the condition experienced during the lockdown, through an audio track of up to 20 seconds to be recorded with the mobile phone.

An action of participatory art based on the extraordinary expressive and communicative potential of sound, a universal language that goes beyond all cultural and linguistic barriers.

In this way, soundtracks from 51 countries were collected.

From Italy to Albania, from Israel to Great Britain, from Taiwan to Mexico, from Germany to Nigeria to Australia. Among the teenagers who sent the sounds there are also migrants residing in Italy, Italian students abroad and a group of young people with severe mental disabilities used sounds to tell the trauma of imprisonment. Their voices have been united within a single large post-produced track that has become the protagonist of the QuaranTeens artistic intervention. The speakers will diffuse a continuous and suggestive overlapping of sounds from December 4, 2021 to January 9, 2022. The soundtrack will also be distributed online and by radio. (HANDLE).
