The mandolinist Avi Avital in concert in Bologna

(ANSA) – BOLOGNA, 11 DEC – The mandolin, in the hands of its most famous interpreter, the Israeli Avi Avital, will be the absolute protagonist of the evening of 13 December at the Manzoni Auditorium in Bologna at 8.30 pm for the Concerts of Music Together. The famous instrumentalist will be joined, in the only Italian appointment of a tour that will take him around Germany and the United States, by the instrumental group Il Pomo d’Oro. “The history of music has always considered the mandolin as an amateur instrument – explains Avi Avital – Only a few classical pieces were written by the most famous composers: Vivaldi, Scarlatti, Mozart, Beethoven for example wrote for mandolin, but compared to other works these pieces constitute a minority, in terms of quantity and importance in their production. For this reason I have performed many arrangements of pieces written for other instruments, thinking that they would have taken on an additional artistic value if performed on the mandolin “. The concert proposed by Musica Insieme serves to dispel the myth that classical music and the mandolin do not know how to get along, to change listening perspectives and to learn more about the history, specifically that of the society that consumed music in the eighteenth century. The partnership between Avi Avital and Il Pomo d’Oro is ready to prove it, with a program of pieces composed in Naples, the city of the mandolin par excellence, in the eighteenth century: from Domenico Sarro and Emanuele Barbella, to Domenico Scarlatti and Giovanni Paisiello they will listen to Symphonies and Concerts of the Neapolitan tradition, interpreted by an ensemble specialized in the Baroque and Classical period, which will be able to exalt with the complicity of Avital the greatness and value of works hidden among the meanders of classicism.
