‘Human fervor’, Tina Modotti exhibition in Ravenna

(ANSA) – RAVENNA, 14 DEC – Tina Modotti is one of the protagonists of the great adventure of photography in the early part of the twentieth century and the Councilorship for Youth Policies of the Municipality of Ravenna has chosen her as a symbol of thought and practice of a language that it has intercepted most of the most intense and painful historical moments of the last century. The ‘Human fervor’ exhibition, curated by Silvia Camporesi and the Tina Modotti committee, will be inaugurated at Palazzo Rasponi 2 on December 17th and will be open for free admission until February 20th.

The opening will be accompanied by a reading by actress Elena Bucci who, through a selection of writings by and about Tina Modotti, will introduce visitors to the vision of the famous photographer’s works. The exhibition presents a nucleus of about fifty works that document Modotti’s path, short and at the same time full of extraordinary works. It starts from the famous “Calle” of 1924 and from the production born from the partnership with Edward Weston up to the epos of the humble, crossing the images collected in the painful and wonderful Mexico of the children, men and women of Tehuantepec. The exhibition also includes portraits by Edward Weston, biographical documents, testimonies, autographed writings and reflections that return the profile of a total artist, transparent and dazzling in the intuitions, in the unmistakable talent and in the profound punctuality of gaze, grafted into the heart of the beauty and cruelty of the world. Worker, artist, theater and film actress, activist of the International Red Aid, militant and revolutionary, Tina Modotti was able to assert a profound identity, connected with some of the crucial and most dramatic moments in the history of the last century: the Mexican Revolution , the Spanish War, Stalin’s Russia, Europe on which the long black shadow of the Second World War was projected.
