Mattarella inaugurates the new Maggio theater hall in Florence

(ANSA) – FLORENCE, 18 DEC – The new hall of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino will be inaugurated in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, for his last public appearance as Head of State outside Rome, on 21 December in Florence. Among the many guests of the evening also the President of the Senate Maria Elisabetta Casellati, the Ministers of Culture Dario Franceschini and of the Interior Luciana Lamorgese, and the leader Iv Matteo Renzi. The new auditorium named after Maestro Mehta is designed to ensure the best acoustic perception and versatility of use (the stage can be transformed into an orchestra pit, from above it is possible to lower the curtain and harlequin, the choir space can be transformed into seats for the public and can host from chamber concerts to operas to conferences). Built in 900 days of work, it will be able to accommodate 1100 spectators. The appointment falls 10 years after the inauguration of the first hall of the Florentine theater which saw a concert directed by Mehta himself in the presence of the then Head of State Giorgio Napolitano. Once again the Maestro will be on the podium for the performance of Giacomo Puccini’s Mass for four voices and Beethoven’s seventh symphony. For the mayor of Florence and president of the Fondazione del Maggio Dario Nardella “it is an important investment that completes the entire operation of the new theater for a total investment of 260 million. The last time such a work was built in Italy it was 30 years ago with the Parco della Musica in Rome. Few cities in Europe are able to create certain works, Florence thus proves to be a great city and at the moment it is at the apex of international culture “. The superintendent of Maggio Alexander Pereira “after the opening concert, on the 22nd there will be a replica open to the public and on the 23rd the new hall will host the first opera with Fidelio. I thank the Florentines and the world for their great generosity towards the Maggio , we will reach 7.5 million euros raised, it is the highest figure ever reached “. With this in mind, the foyer of the theater was named after the Italian American philanthropist, and Florentine by birth, Maria Manetti Shrem. (HANDLE).
