Photography: Cattedrale Bitonto wins Wiki Loves Monuments contest

(ANSA) – BARI, 18 DEC – Bitonto with its Cathedral is the protagonist of the winning photo of the Italian edition of Wiki Loves Monuments, the largest photo contest in the world organized by the Wikipedia communities. In the top 10 there is also the window of Amatrice that survived the earthquake.

The initiative, which contributes to the free sharing on the internet of contents relating to the enhancement and conservation of cultural sites and monuments all over the world, celebrated the conclusion of the tenth edition at the Palazzo della Città Metropolitana in Bari, with the awarding of the 10 winning photos. . The contest is organized by Wikimedia Italia in collaboration with Anci, the Italian Touring Club, the Italian Federation of Photographic Associations, Arci Liguria and Apt Emilia Romagna and with the patronage of Arci and Icom. There are 17,263 monuments that can be photographed in Italy and over 165,000 photos collected in recent years on Wikimedia Commons.

In the 2021 edition, therefore, first place for the photo of the Cathedral of Bitonto in a black and white shot by Giovanni Cenerino. The second place is also from Puglia: the Tower of Tertiveri (Foggia) photographed by Marco La Torre. Maurizio Moro conquers the third, fifth and sixth place with three photographs: San Zeno against the light; Monument to the Fallen Symmetries; Lecco in winter.

The fourth place goes to Casone Donnabona-Reflections in the fog. The Castle and the Moon by Aldo Montemarano, shot in Melfi, in Basilicata, wins the sixth place. Federica Tamburini signs the black and white shot entitled Fermo-Villa Vitali – Il Loggiato. In black and white also the photo in ninth position, Scanno in black and white, by Gianluca Pirro. The photograph that wins the tenth place is evocative: Justinawind immortalizes the only stained glass window in the church of Sant’Agostino that survived the Amatrice earthquake of 24 August 2016 in a shot entitled Vetrata Salvata.
