Books: Roberto Toppetta, The darkness in the head

(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 23 – ROBERTO TOPPETTA, THE DARK IN THE HEAD (Bertoni Editore, pp. 230, 17 euros). The novel “The darkness in the head”, written by Roberto Toppetta and published by Bertoni Editore, is the story of that “evil of living” that affects many people every day and places them on the edge of their own existence. With the preface by Renato Minore, the book is built around the story of a university assistant who, after the violent loss of his pregnant wife and mother, indulges in alcohol and smoking almost without realizing it. His life is irreparably turned upside down: after the tragedy, in fact, old anxieties related to a youthful trauma never overcome emerge from his past. Man thus, from a “beautiful head”, becomes a “rotten apple” of his Faculty: he is alone and desperate, completely adrift. Not even the psychiatrist who follows him will be able to help him. With an engaging writing, the author immerses the reader in a story of pain: through the vicissitudes of his protagonist (but also using the other characters of the novel) he investigates in depth the mental darkness, despair, brutality, not having more than the goals for which to live in the absolute inability to react to the blows of fate.
