From pastures to bricks

It was during a big competition called LEGO Ideas that this Sonic the Hedgehog set was born. The Swedish brand thus offered lovers of colored bricks around the world to come up with their own design ideas for new LEGO sets. Viv Grannell, a fan of Sonic in front of the Eternal, had then proposed a set based on the game Sonic Mania, featuring the blue hedgehog at the heart of a reinterpretation of the all-brick Green Hill Zone. An idea selected and approved by LEGO last February, which then announced the upcoming release of a set based on the SEGA mascot.

The end result is significantly different from the design proposed by Grannell: no mecha Eggman or robotic minions, this set intended to be marketed sticks to the essential elements of the famous game of Mega Drive. We should thus find Sonic and the Green Hill Zone, as well as two robot enemies — a crab and an insect — rings, a springboard and, of course, Dr. Eggman. The latter is undoubtedly the least convincing element of this new set. If his glider goes quite well in LEGO aesthetics, the same cannot be said of his face and his mustache …

No release date has been spotted on this wild listing, but it’s a safe bet that an official announcement should take place shortly. Yesterday, it’s another LEGO set that had unfortunately been unveiled to the public ahead of time — but only in name.
