(ANSA) – ROME, DEC 30 – The year of sport and Italian triumphs, of the confirmation of Sanremo as the entertainment event par excellence, of the definitive affirmation of the platforms that – thanks to the pandemic – reach exceed, considering only the ratings from smart TV (and therefore with an underestimated figure), Rai1 and Canale 5. This is the 2021 TV report drawn up by Studio Frasi on the basis of Auditel data.
In the year of the Azzurri’s victory at the European Championships, football has returned to reaching heights that have not been seen for some time.
All seven matches of the national team were watched by over 10 million spectators; the most watched was the Italy-England final, which ended after penalties in front of 18.2 million fans tuned to Rai1 and 2.4 million on Sky Sport.
The time difference penalized the Olympics: at the top of the Auditel the band between 12 and 15, with 2.9 million spectators and 23.5%. The Italian double gold is the most watched moment on live TV: it is August 1st, Gianmarco Tamberi in the high jump and Marcell Jacobs in the 100 meters triumph in front of almost 7 million spectators, a good 46% share.
Sanremo is confirmed at the top of the ranking: the most popular is the final evening of March 6, with 10.7 million spectators.
The overall audience drops, with -7% in prime time compared to 2020: 1.8 million people are missing in front of the TV. If Rai in prime time loses 3.5% of its viewers, Mediaset drops by 10.4%, Sky by 10.8% and La7 by 13.9%. The group of networks, the so-called ‘other terrestrials’, which are not individually surveyed by Auditel, gain audience in prime time: the most interesting slice is represented by over the top (OTT), such as Prime Video, Netflix, Disney +. An ensemble that reaches 8% share both on the average day and in prime time, conquering the third place behind only the two flagships. The boom is recorded in particular thanks to smart TVs: the ‘others’ reach 16% share in 24 hours, surpassing Rai1 (13.6%) and Canale 5 (12.4%). In prime time Rai1 maintains its leadership with 16.8% share, but Canale 5, at 12.8%, is surpassed by the ‘others’ (14.2%). (HANDLE).
