Towards the new digital, it is the turn of the Northern regions

New stage of the road map that will lead to the new digital terrestrial. From January 3, citizens of the regions of Northern Italy will have to retune the TV channels to continue watching TV programs. According to the scheme developed by the Ministry of Economic Development, Valle d’Aosta, Piedmont, Lombardy (except the province of Mantua) and the provinces of Piacenza, Trento will be interested in the reorganization of frequencies from 3 January to 9 March. and Bolzano, and from 9 February to 14 March the Veneto, the province of Mantua, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Emilia Romagna. Subsequently it will be the turn of the southern regions and those of central Italy. From 1 March to 15 May 2022 in area 4: Sicily, Calabria, Puglia, Basilicata, Abruzzo, Molise and Marche. From 1 May to 30 June 2022 in area 1B: Liguria, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio and Campania. The reorganization of the frequencies has already started in Sardinia on 15 November and will be completed on 4 January with the other Rai channels (Rai 1, Rai 2, Rai 3 TGR Regionale and Rai News).

On March 8, 2022, on the other hand, the national television broadcasters will discontinue the Mpeg-2 transmission coding and activate the Mpeg-4 coding on the DVBT technological standard throughout the country, which will allow viewing programs in high quality only for those who has a TV that supports this technology. Until December 31, 2022, national television broadcasters will still be able to continue to transmit simultaneously with both codings, but the channels with the new coding will be on the remote control numbers from 1 to 9. The transition to the new standard of digital terrestrial will allow you to enjoy a much higher quality of images than the current one and to receive more channels. The process was determined by the need to free up the 700 Mhz band, widely used in Italy, especially by local TVs, to make room for the 5G network for telephone operators. To check if your screen is compatible with this standard, you need to tune into the two test channels 100 and 200: the model is enabled for reception only if the message “Test HEVC Main10” appears. The Mise and the regions involved in the reorganization of the frequencies that will start on January 3 have started a collaboration to coordinate communication initiatives to reach all the municipalities concerned. Citizens who need to change the television or buy the decoder will be able to continue to request the bonuses made available by the Mise, whose resources have been further refinanced with 68 million euros in the 2022 budget law. a new facility that provides for the delivery of decoders to the home of the elderly over 70 with an income of less than 20,000 euros, through an agreement between the Ministry of Economic Development and the Italian Post Office.
