JR Tolkien, the master of fantasy was born 130 years ago

(ANSA) – ROME, JANUARY 03 – John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born 130 years ago, on January 3, 1892, considered the father of the fantasy genre, creator of the Lord of the Rings saga from which a trilogy of films that won a total of 17 Oscars, of which 11 only for the final episode.

Born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, the eldest son of English colonists originally from Birmingham, he spends almost all of his street in England. Oxford teacher of Anglo-Saxon and English language and literature (1925-59), author of philological works (A middle English vocabulary, 1922; Sir Gawain and the green knight, 1925; Beowulf, 1937; The homecoming of Beorhtnoth, 1953), reached fame fame above all for his activity as a modern creator of myths.
