Recently, the Ukrainian Paralympic hero was caught doping and disqualified for 2 years, which is very sad. But there is good news in the Paralympic world: Italian PTS2 paratriathlete Veronica Yoko Plebani is the cover star of Italian Vogue.

The girl also gave a touching interview, which is impossible to read without tears:

For the first time, my body was photographed in all its complexity, not just separate “acceptable” parts. My body is difficult to photograph, and I was very pleased to talk about it, not only in the context of disability.

The Paralympic athlete said that since childhood she dreamed of becoming an athlete, because her father, who participates in marathon races, had a huge influence on her. But at the age of 15, meningitis put an end to her career and even threatened her life. The girl spent four agonizing months in the hospital, and returned home in a wheelchair with amputated phalanges of her arms and legs. The scars on her body will never let her forget about that terrible period.

When I was in the hospital, I thought that I could never forget this pain. Instead, I forgot about her. Therefore, today I am not afraid of anything. Any challenge seems possible to me. What can happen?

Today, 25-year-old Veronica tries herself in canoeing and snowboarding, and at the Paralympics in Tokyo she took a bronze medal in a triathlon.

My favorite sport is fatigue. When I met the triathlon team at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, I immediately realized that this absurd sport would suit me. From swimming to cycling, from cycling to running … after once I couldn’t even walk a kilometer!

– jokes and charges Veronica with her optimism.
